What fluidmasc means.
Fluidmasc is genderfluid with a rule attached. The gender moves — mostly between being a man and other masculine or man-adjacent genders, sometimes further afield — but wherever it goes, it stays masculine. The LGBTQIA+ Wiki's entry says every gender felt is masculine or related to manhood in some capacity, and that the masculinity keeps the same intensity all, or nearly all, of the time.
So the list of stops can be long and odd. A man. A demiboy. A masculine take on a non-binary gender. Even a feminine gender with a streak of manhood in it. What ties them together is that nothing you land on is ever un-masculine. The wiki lists sub-labels for the fine print — fluixmasc when the amount of masculinity also varies, parafluidmasc when the masculine link occasionally drops out — and says plainly that nobody has to use them.
What it is not: boyflux, where a male gender stays put and only its volume changes. Fluidmasc changes which gender, not how much. It is not a presentation word either — it says nothing about how you dress. The mirror image is fluidfem. And it is a small, recent, community-made word with no research behind it. Where the word comes from
Fluidmasc has no individually named coiner on record; it was formed as the masculine mirror of fluidfem, following the same later wave of MOGAI-adjacent terminology that produced systematic pairs of fem/masc gender-modifier words rather than one-off Tumblr coinages.
It joins "fluid" with "-masc" to describe genderfluidity confined to a masculine lane — typically moving among genders such as male, miaspec identities and demiboy — while the felt intensity of masculinity stays roughly constant, distinguishing it from genderflux, where intensity itself is what varies. As with fluidfem, sub-labels (fluixmasc, parafluidmasc, demifluidmasc) developed afterward to mark variations in degree.

What's the difference between fluidmasc and boyflux?+
Boyflux is a male gender at varying volume — fully a man, half a man, none, back again. Fluidmasc is different genders, one after another, all of them masculine at about the same strength. Volume versus station.
Can I be fluidmasc and a trans man, or cis, or assigned female?+
Any of those. The word describes the shape of the movement, not your body or your history. The wiki lists binary man among the stops, so a cis man whose gender wanders into masculine non-binary territory and back can use it.
Where does it come from?+
