Overview
What boyfluid means.
Boyfluid means your gender moves — between being a boy, being neutral, being somewhere androgynous, being nothing — and one direction is shut. Never a girl. Not on a soft day, not for an afternoon. The movement is real and so is the wall.
It sits next to two better-known words and people use all three loosely. Boyflux is a boy turned up and down. Genderfaun is fluid-but-never-feminine with no fixed home. Boyfluid is the one that says: I move, and the place I keep coming back to is boy. Not masculine as a texture — boy as a gender. The difference is small, and the people who feel it feel it strongly.
The honest part. This is a tiny word. The LGBTQIA+ Wiki has an entry for it, and the same entry carries a staff notice that the page could not be verified. It records a coining on Discord in 2021. There is no research and there are no numbers. Nothing here comes from anywhere but people describing themselves online — and a description can still be exactly right.
A kind of genderfluidity that moves between male, neutral, androgynous and genderless and never reaches female, with boy as the home station.
Boyfluid in one line
Origin
Where the word comes from
Boyfluid's origin is thin and explicitly unverified: the LGBTQIA+ Wiki's own entry carries a notice that the page's history could not be confirmed, and records only a claimed coining on Discord in 2021, with no coiner named. It sits alongside the better-established boyflux and genderfaun as one of several 2020s community words distinguishing 'fluid but never feminine, anchored on boy' from nearby but distinct concepts.
Signs people describe
Common experiences
None of these is a test. Most people recognise a few and shrug at the rest.
You are a boy most weeks, and you know the days you are not, because "he" goes slightly hollow and nothing else steps in to replace it.
"Man" has always felt like a size up.
"Boy" fits, and it is not about age.
You tried "genderfluid" and spent the next month being asked about your girl days, which do not exist.
You tried "trans man", or just "man", and it held until the first neutral week, when it felt like wearing someone else's coat.
On the androgynous days you are not blending — you are just off to the side of the map, and it passes.
You have a small drawer of clothes for the nothing days and a wardrobe for the rest.
Being read as a boy on a neutral day is survivable.
Being read as a girl on any day is not.

Pronouns
Pronouns
He/him is the usual home set, with they/them for the neutral and nothing stretches. Some people run he/they permanently so nobody has to track the weather. She/her is out — if it ever fits, genderfluid is the page you want.
Consider another path
This might not be your word if…
- 1A girl day has happened, even once. Then the door is not shut, and genderfluid is your word.
- 2Nothing moves. You are a boy, full stop, who sometimes feels less like one. Read boyflux, or simply be a boy.
- 3What moves is your clothes and your haircut while the boy underneath stays put. That is presentation, and it has its own words.
- 4You are reaching for "boy" because "man" feels frightening rather than wrong. Worth sitting with slowly. It may still be this.
Questions people ask
Frequently asked questions
Boyfluid or boyflux — which is it?+
Flux is volume; fluid is station. A boyflux person is fully a boy, then barely one, then back. A boyfluid person is a boy, then neutral, then nothing, then a boy again. In practice the wiki that records boyfluid says the two can be used interchangeably, and many people do. Pick the one that describes your Tuesday.
Can I be boyfluid if I was assigned male at birth?+
Yes. The word describes movement with one direction closed, and says nothing about what you were assigned. Someone assigned male whose gender drifts to neutral and back has every right to it. So does someone assigned female who is transitioning.
Is there anything official about this word?+
No. It has a wiki entry the wiki itself marks as unverified, a flag, and people using it. That is the whole paper trail. If the description keeps being true when nobody is watching, the paper trail does not matter much.
The flag
Lgbtqia.wiki page is tagged Unsourced; the flag has no recorded designer or date and no hex codes.
