Terms of sale

Terms of sale

What you buy when you buy a PDF here, who sells it, how it reaches you, and what you can do if something goes wrong. In plain words.

In short

  • Who sells. Vinea Capital AG, named in full in section 1. Stripe takes the payment on its own pages; we never see your card.
  • What you buy. A PDF your own browser builds from the answers already on your device. Nothing is posted to you, nothing renews, there is no account.
  • What it costs. $19 for the report, $39 for the report and kit. You pay once. Where VAT or sales tax applies to your country it is included in the price and shown on the receipt.
  • Age. 18, or younger with a parent or guardian’s permission. If a parent tells us their child bought this, we refund it.
  • Changing your mind. EU, EEA and UK consumers normally have 14 days to cancel an online purchase. Because the file is unlocked straight away, checkout asks you to agree to immediate delivery and to give that right up. If you would rather keep it, do not buy yet; the free test and library do not expire.
  • If the file is broken or never arrives. Giving up the right to change your mind is not giving up the right to a product that works. Tell us; we fix it or refund you in full.

1. Who you are buying from

The products are made, published and sold by Vinea Capital AG.

Stripe is the payment processor, not the seller. When you pay, you do it on a checkout page run by Stripe. Stripe takes your card or wallet details, charges you, and sends the receipt on our behalf. The contract of sale is between you and Vinea Capital AG. Stripe’s own terms and privacy notice govern the checkout page itself.

We never see your card details. We do not receive them and we cannot store them.

What we do receive. After a purchase, Stripe holds for us the payment record: the email address you gave at checkout, the amount, the time, and the name of the product. We never receive your test answers or your result. Our privacy page sets out what we do with all of it.

2. Who can buy

You must be 18 or over to buy. If you are under 18, you may only buy with the permission of a parent or someone else with parental responsibility for you, and by paying you are telling us you have it.

If a parent or guardian contacts us about a purchase made by their child, we refund it in full. We do not ask for a reason, we do not ask you to prove anything, and we do not ask what the file said. Write to us at the address above with the payment reference from the receipt.

We know teenagers read this site. That clause is there for them, not against them.

3. What you are buying

The report, $19. A PDF built from the answers you gave in the free test: why your closest match came first, your scores next to its profile axis by axis, your near-misses and what separates each from the match, every answer you gave, the full guide to your match laid out to read and print, and questions to sit with. It is one file, built once, at the moment you unlock it.

The report and kit, $39. Everything in the report, plus the kit for explaining yourself to the people around you: a parent, a partner, a close friend, work, someone you expect to take it badly and the practical version, written out as conversations you can read, print and adapt, and one page to hand to someone who wants to understand.

Both are built by your own browser, on your device, from the result already stored there. Nothing is emailed, hosted or shipped. You are buying files: not a service, not access to a person, and not an account. There is nothing to log in to.

4. Price and tax

Prices are in US dollars. The price you see is the price you pay. Where VAT or sales tax applies to the country you buy from, it is included in that price and shown on your receipt; Stripe works it out from your country at checkout. Your bank may charge a currency conversion fee if your card is not in US dollars; that fee is between you and your bank.

5. How delivery works

Your answers stay on your device. When you take the test, your answers are stored by the site in your own browser. They are never sent to us or to Stripe, before or after you pay. They are kept so that they are still there when you come back from the checkout; you can remove them at any time from the result page or by clearing site data for mygender.com.

Checkout happens on Stripe’s pages. When you buy, you leave mygender.com and land on a checkout page run by Stripe. We do not load Stripe’s code into our pages.

Then you come back, and the file is built here. After payment, Stripe sends you back to a page on mygender.com with a payment reference. That page asks our server to check the reference with Stripe. Our server learns two things: that the payment was made, and which of the two products it was. Only then does the generator run, on your device, out of the answers already there. The finished file saves to your downloads. It does not travel across the internet, because it never existed anywhere else.

Delivery begins when our server confirms the payment and the file is unlocked on your device. That is the moment that matters in section 8. Your browser then remembers for seven days that the file is unlocked, so you can build it again.

6. What you need for it to work

  • The same browser on the same device you took the test in. The answers live there and nowhere else.
  • Site data for mygender.com still present. If you clear your browsing data, use private browsing, or switch device or browser between taking the test and unlocking the file, the answers are gone and the file cannot be built from them.
  • A current version of Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge, with JavaScript on, and room to save a PDF of a few megabytes.

There is no account, so there is no server-side copy to re-download later. Save the file somewhere safe once you have it. If you lose it, see the next section.

7. If the download fails

First, go back to the page and try again; most failures are a blocked download or a browser that ran out of memory. If it still will not work, Write to us at the address above with the payment reference from your Stripe receipt and the browser you used. We aim to reply within three working days.

We will get you a working file if we can. If the answers are gone from your browser, we will ask you to take the test again on the device you will use, and unlock the file there at no charge. If we cannot get you a working file at all, you get your money back in full. We instruct the refund through Stripe within five working days of agreeing it with you; the money goes back to the card or account you paid with.

8. Your 14-day right to change your mind, and how you give it up

8.1 The right

If you are a consumer in the EU or EEA, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from anything you buy online, without giving a reason and without penalty (Directive 2011/83/EU, article 9). If you are in the UK you have the same right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. For digital content like this, the 14 days run from the day you buy. Swiss law gives no such right for online purchases, and neither does US federal law; the refund routes in sections 2, 7 and 10 are open to you all the same.

8.2 The exception, and what must happen

The right does not apply to digital content delivered straight away, but only if, before delivery began, you expressly asked for it to begin during the 14-day period and acknowledged that by asking you lose the right, and you were given confirmation of that in a form you can keep. If any of those is missing, you keep the full 14 days even if you have downloaded and read the file, and you are owed a refund.

8.3 How it happens at checkout

On the Stripe checkout page, before you can pay, there is a box to tick that accepts these terms and states that you ask for the file to be delivered immediately and understand that you lose the right of withdrawal once it is unlocked. The purchase does not go through without it. Your receipt email, which you can keep, confirms the purchase and links to these terms.

8.4 What we record, and why

The right ends when delivery begins, so we record the moment it began: the payment reference, the time Stripe recorded your acceptance of these terms, and the time our server confirmed the payment and unlocked the file. Nothing else: not your answers, not your result, not a line of what the file says. We keep that record for as long as a payment can be disputed, and then it goes.

8.5 If you ticked the box but nothing was unlocked

The right is only lost once delivery has actually begun. If you paid and the file was never unlocked, you still have your 14 days and you can withdraw; section 9 says how. If we cannot show that the file was unlocked, we treat delivery as not having begun.

9. How to withdraw, if you still have the right

Write to us at the address above within 14 days of the day you bought, with any clear statement that you are withdrawing and the payment reference. Sending it on the last day is enough. You do not have to give a reason. You get all your money back within 14 days of us being told, by the same method you paid with, at no cost to you.

If you want a form, this is enough: “To Vinea Capital AG: I withdraw from my purchase of [the report / the report and kit], payment reference ……, made on ……. Name: ……. Date: …….”

10. If something is wrong with the product

This is a different right from the one in section 8, and giving up the right to change your mind does not touch it. If the file does not match what section 3 describes, or does not open, tell us. We fix it, and if we cannot, we refund you in full. Your legal guarantees as a consumer in your country of residence are not reduced by anything on this page.

11. What you may do with the file

The file is yours to read, print, keep and share with the people in your life. It is for personal use: you may not sell it, publish it, or pass it off as your own work. The texts of the guides remain ours. Your answers and your result remain yours; we never had them.

12. What the file is not

It is a description, not a diagnosis. Nothing in it is medical, psychological or legal advice, and it is not evidence of anything about anyone. Our liability for anything arising from a purchase is limited to the price you paid, except where the law does not allow that limit.

13. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Swiss law. If you are a consumer, the mandatory protections of the country where you live still apply, and you may bring a claim there. We are not part of an alternative dispute resolution scheme; if something goes wrong, Write to us at the address above first, and we will try to put it right.

14. Changes

We may change these terms for future purchases. The terms that apply to your purchase are the ones published at the time you bought, and they are dated below.
