What genderfaer means.
Genderfaer is genderfae with the door opened one notch. Your gender moves — woman, neutral, nothing, something unnamed — and it can go masculine. What it never does is arrive at being entirely a binary man. The record says so exactly: a form of genderfluidity that never encompasses being entirely a binary man, which can include masculine and man-aligned genders.
That notch is the whole reason the word exists beside genderfae. Genderfae shuts the masculine out altogether. Genderfaer lets it in, up to a line. If "masculine but not a man" is a real stop on your dial, this is your word; if masculinity of any kind is absent, genderfae is.
The paper trail is short and this page will not pad it. The LGBTQIA+ Wiki records the term coined by the Tumblr blog pantasticenby on 6 June 2019, flag the same day, with a turquoise stripe for masculinity without being wholly a man. Genderdoer is the alternate name. The opposite is genderfaunet; genderfloren excludes both binary genders. A string of sub-terms and alternate flags followed. None of it is research and none of it is numbers.

Genderfaer was coined by the Tumblr blog pantasticenby on 6 June 2019, alongside its turquoise-stripe flag, according to the LGBTQIA+ Wiki. It was built directly off genderfae, an earlier xenogender term that excludes masculinity entirely, by loosening that boundary to allow masculine and man-aligned genders while still stopping short of being entirely a binary man.
It belongs to a small family of 'fae' and 'faer' xenogender terms that spread through Tumblr's nonbinary and xenogender communities in the late 2010s, each defining a different boundary around how far a fluid gender is allowed to travel toward the binary.

Nothing fixed. They/them and she/they are common; he/they turns up for people whose masculine stretches are real. Some rotate sets with the gender and signal it with a pin or a display name; most keep one set for the sake of everyone else. Fae/faer pronouns share the faerie root and the same corner of the internet, and neither requires the other.

- 1"Man" has been true for you on at least one day. That is the entire exclusion in this word, and one day breaks it. Genderfluid.
- 2Masculinity never turns up, not even faint. Genderfae already says that, more cleanly.
- 3Nothing moves. Masc-but-not-a-man as a fixed position has better words: demiboy, transmasculine, non-binary.
- 4What moves is the clothes. A woman in a suit on Monday and a dress on Friday has a wardrobe, not a fluid gender.
