Crystagender is genderfluidity with a crack in it. The gender changes at random, with no cycle and no trigger, and the change often does not feel like moving from one place to another. It feels like breaking. One day whole, one thing. The next, split between two or three genders at once, none of them the full size.
The image is a crystal: something that fractures along lines you cannot predict, and the pieces are still all the same material. Whether you feel the pieces one after another or all at the same moment is up to you; the LGBTQIA+ Wiki records both.
It is a small word from the 2014 Tumblr era, with a flag and a one-paragraph definition and not much else behind it. No survey, no community forum you could join tomorrow. If the broken part is what genderfluid never captured for you, this is the word that names it. If your changes feel smooth, you already have a word, and it is genderfluid.

Crystagender was coined on Tumblr and given a flag by the artist Pride-Flags on 4 July 2015; the DeviantArt posting of that flag is the earliest dated record of the word in circulation, though the coiner of the term itself is not separately named in surviving sources.
The word joins "crysta-" (crystal) to "-gender" to describe a genderfluid experience with a specific texture: rather than moving smoothly from one gender to another, the person feels split or fractured between several genders at once, the way a crystal breaks along unpredictable lines rather than bending. It belongs to the wave of MOGAI-community coinages that spread through Tumblr blogs like Pride-Flags and MOGAI Archive in the mid-2010s, most of which built new gender words from a metaphor plus a flag rather than from a single named coiner.

A few use two sets and let people choose. Pronouns are a request for something workable, not a readout of the pieces.

- 1Your gender moves on a pattern you can name: a cycle, a trigger, a season. Genderfluid, or one of its more specific relatives, describes that better than a word built on randomness.
- 2Several genders, all at once, and they stay. That is multigender or polygender, and nothing is broken about it.
- 3What feels fractured is you, not your gender: a bad stretch, illness, burnout. The gender may simply have gone quiet under it. Give it time before naming the quiet.
- 4You like the crystal more than the definition. The flag is pretty. The word is about breaking.

What is the difference between crystagender and genderfluid?+
Genderfluid is any gender that changes over time. Crystagender is a specific texture of that: the change is random, and it often feels like fracturing into several genders at once rather than moving cleanly from one to another. Every crystagender person is genderfluid in the broad sense. Most genderfluid people are not crystagender.
Is crystagender a real term?+
It is a recorded one. The LGBTQIA+ Wiki traces it to a Tumblr blog in 2014 and a flag from 2015 with no stated meaning. That is the whole record. Whether it is real for you depends on whether the description fits, and no wiki can decide that.
Does crystagender mean my gender is damaged?+
No. Broken is the image, not a diagnosis. The pieces are the same material as the whole. If the word helps you say what a fractured day is like, use it. If it makes you feel faulty, put it down; there are gentler words for the same movement.
