Agenderfae was coined by the Tumblr blog neopronouns on 5 November 2020, as a deliberate combination of agender and genderfae (itself a 2014 coinage describing fluidity that never settles on masculine). The same post produced the flag and the counterpart term agenderfaun on the same day, part of a small cluster of compound xenogender and agender-family words produced quickly within Tumblr's non-binary vocabulary scene in the early 2020s.

There is no set. They/them is the obvious fit for a gender that is mostly absent; she/they and fae/faer arrive from the genderfae side. Some people move sets with the gender and tell two or three people; most pick one and keep it, because a moving pronoun is a lot to ask of everyone else. He/him is the one set almost nobody here wants, and that is the tell.

This might not be your word if…
- 1Manhood shows up, even faintly, even once a year. One "today I'm a bloke" and genderfae is out, which takes this word with it. Agenderfluid or agenderflux will fit better.
- 2Nothing ever moves. A flat line for years is agender, and adding a suffix does not make it more precise.
- 3What moves is your clothes and your mood, not the gender underneath. Wearing a dress on a good week is not a shift in identity.
- 4You like the moss-and-faeries texture of the word more than the definition matches. The flag is lovely. It is not evidence.

Is agenderfae a kind of agender or a kind of genderfae?+
Both, and the record files it in both families. The honest answer is that it depends which half is doing the work for you. If you mostly need to say "nothing", lead with agender and add this when it matters. If you mostly need to say "moves, but never man", lead with genderfae. The word exists for people who kept having to say both sentences.
Do I have to use fae/faer pronouns?+
No. The pronoun set and the label share a faerie root and a corner of Tumblr, and that is the whole connection. They/them is at least as common here. Use what works in the rooms you are actually in.
Where does the word come from?+
Its record on the LGBTQIA+ Wiki says a Tumblr blog called neopronouns coined it on 5 November 2020 and drew the flag the same day, combining the agender and genderfae flags. That is the entire paper trail. No studies, no surveys, no numbers — anyone quoting you a statistic about agenderfae people has made it up.

Designer (neopronouns) and date (2020-11-05) are on lgbtqia.wiki and the archived Tumblr post, but the flag exists only as a PNG; no hex values on record.
