What cassfluid means.
Cassfluid is two words welded together. Cassgender: you might have a gender, and it does not matter much to you. Genderfluid: something moves. Put together, the word covers three shapes, and the people who use it do not agree which one is the real definition.
The Cassgender Community Network blog on Tumblr, the nearest thing to a record we could reach, lays out all three: the indifference is fluid while the gender stays put; the gender is fluid while the indifference stays put; or both are moving. If you fit somewhere along those lines, the blog says, you could be cassfluid.
What it is not: cassflux, where the gender sits still and only how much you care rises and falls — that one has a wiki entry and a flag of its own. And it is not plain genderfluid, where the changes matter to you. Be honest with yourself about how thin the record is here. No community wiki we could fetch has a page for it; the definition lives in a Tumblr answer and an Urban Dictionary entry. It can still be the exact word for you. It just will not win any arguments.

Where the word comes from
No individual coiner or date is recorded for cassfluid. The clearest documentation is a Tumblr answer from the Cassgender Community Network blog, which describes the term as a combination of cassgender (coined earlier, describing indifference to one's gender) and genderfluid, and states plainly that there is very little information about it and no confirmed flag. It appears to have developed informally within cassgender-focused Tumblr communities rather than through a single coining post.

Every so often it matters — you want the word, the pronoun, the look — and then it stops mattering again before you have done anything about it.

Nothing about the word fixes your pronouns. If the gender moves, some people move the pronouns with it. If the caring is what moves, most settle on one low-effort set — correcting people is exactly the sort of gender admin a cass week cannot be bothered with.

- 1Your gender moves and you care about each move. That is genderfluid; the cass part is not there.
- 2Nothing moves — gender or caring — and you would like a word for "I don't think about it". Cassgender says that with far less explaining.
- 3What comes and goes is how safe it is to care, not how much you do. That is your surroundings moving, not you.
- 4The flat weeks flatten everything else too — food, friends, music. Look at that first; a word will keep.

What's the difference between cassfluid and cassflux?+
Cassflux: the gender sits still, and how much it matters rises and falls. Cassfluid is broader and blurrier — the gender may move, the caring may move, or both. If you only need the caring dial, cassflux is the better-documented word.
Is cassfluid a real term?+
It is a term real people use. It is also barely recorded: a Tumblr community blog answers a question about it, an Urban Dictionary entry defines it, and the community wikis we could reach have no page for it. A word's obscurity does not make your experience less real. It does mean you will be explaining it.
Does cassfluid have a flag?+
Not one we can verify. The Cassgender Community Network said as much when asked. This site shows an honest hatched chip rather than inventing one.
